James Braid

James Braid was born in Earlsferry, Fife, Scotland in 1870, and was Open Champion five times: 1901, 1905, 1906, 1908 and 1910. He was the Professional at Romford GC 1896 - 1904 and Walton Heath GC 1904 - 1949. He was also a renowned golf course architect and among his designs are the "King's Course" and the "Queen's Course" at Gleneagles, and he was responsible for the 1926 remodeling of The Open Championship venue Carnoustie Golf Links.
