Maple and Co. were a British furniture retailer and furniture and upholstery manufacturer. They were very successful throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods and renowned for their fine high-quality craftsmanship. They became one of the most fashionable and supplied furniture and interior decoration to a number of high status individuals, including various strains of royal families. By 1892, Maples held the title of 'Upholsterers by special appointment to her majesty Queen Victoria'. The Royal connection continued and in 1910, when Edward VII died, Maples were appointed 'Upholsters and Decorators to his majesty George V'. First established by John Maple in 1840's, with a former co-worker James Cook, at Tottenham Court Road calling themselves Cook & Maple. In 1851, the partnership dissolved, leaving Maple as sole proprietor of the company.
