Sixth edition of 'How To Play Croquet' by W.H. Peel, with Hints and Suggestions for the Management of Croquet Meetings and Public Tournaments. Original coloured hard back paper boards, a little soiled and with some surface paper missing. Published by John Jaques & Son, Ltd. There are 12 adverts for various sporting equipment by Jaques such as, croquet sets, 'Eclipse' composition balls, hoops, Carlton croquet stand, croquet target, boundary netting, clock golf, tennis posts and rackets. Text with illustrations, diagrams and photos throughout. Internally good with very occasional foxing to some pages, spine a little loose. Front cover says fifth edition inside page say sixth, circa 1905.
Contents include Style & Method of Aiming, Dead Boundary, Definition of Terms, Tactics - General Advice - Openings - Middle Game, or Four-ball Break - End Games, The Four-Handed Game, The Willis Setting, Bisques and How to Take Them, The management of Prize Meetings and Croquet at Garden Parties.
