Vintage Rowing Medal.
A very nice bronze rowing medal in original presentation box. The medal was awarded by the Universities Athletic Union for Rowing Eights in 1938. The medal is embossed on the front with a rearing unicorn with 'Universities Athletic Union' written around the outside. On the reverse is a laurel wreath with the engraving 'ROWING EIGHTS 1938'. The name on the box lid is 'The Alexander Clark. Co. Ltd.' and they were established by Clift Alexander Mawer Clark in 1891 in London at 138 Fenchurch Street. Their manufacturing premises were opened in 1894 at 29 Market Place, Oxford Street. In 1900 the firm secured the use of Welbeck Works, Sheffield, later transferring in 1918 to James Street Works, St. Paul's, Birmingham. The firm was converted into a limited company in 1912 and traded as 'The Alexander Clark Co Ltd.'.
