Birch & Alpe Ltd. War Department Arm Chairs.
A pair of oak and faux leather arm chairs made for the British Military. The legs are stamped 'Birch & Alpe Ltd., 1953' with a 'Queen's Crown' with 'WD', the 'WD' stands for War Department. The chairs are solid, in good condition, faux leather with wear and tear. Birch & Alpe Ltd. were 19th and 20th century furniture makers based at Kitchener Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Charles William Birch was apprenticed at age 13 to his grandfather's business William Birch but left in the 1920's to set up Birch and Alpe, Alpe was his wife's maiden name. The price showing is for a pair, we do have another pair so price for all four is £750.
