Puma Hunting Knife, Förster-Nicker Frevert
A great fixed blade hunting knife by Puma of Germany in original leather sheath. The 4 ½ inch Inox blade with sharp point for easily stabbing game and a finger groove to safely control the blade when cutting in the interior of the game. The full tang blade fitted with genuine staghorn handle and a flat guard of natural horn. The blade etched "PUMA, FÖRSTER-NICKER, nach Oberforstmeister Frevert, Inox Pat 1100503, Best No. 3585, Germany, Handarbeit", also stamped '96011'. The leather sheath embossed "made in Germany".
The FÖRSTER-NICKER knife was introduced in 1960, the guard (bolster) was made out of buffalo horn, early knives were packed in a wooden presentation box. This knife pattern was part of PUMA's range of hunting knives at least until the mid 1990's, the blade marking changes several times.
Each PUMA knife is factory stamped with a control number indicating in code the year and quarter of its manufacture. The coding system began in October 1964, any PUMA knife not bearing the control number was probably made prior to this date.
