Graham Hill was one of the first Formula One media stars and was a very popular racer. Born Norman Graham Hill on February 1929 he first started racing for the Lotus Formula 1 team. He had been a member of the London Rowing Club and to show his continued support he wore the club colours with eight white vertical stripes (representing oars) on his helmet. He famously won the triple crown of motor sport in the shape of the Formula One World Championship title twice (1962, 1968), The Indianapolis 500 (1966) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1972). He sadly died with five other members of his racing team in a plane crash on 29th November 1975 returning from a test at Paul Ricard Circuit in France.

Jock Levden was born in Scotland in 1908 but went with his family to South Africa in 1926. He was a free - lance artist in 1930 and specialised in motoring subjects.
