Antique F.H. Ayres Lawn Tennis Racket.
A rare, early lopsided (tilt head or teardrop shape) lawn tennis racquet in good original condition by F.H. Ayres of London. The heavy ash lop sided frame is in excellent condition, the walnut concave wedge is stamped with the maker's name 'F.H. Ayres, 15oz, Warranted, London'. The original period thick gut stringing is in very good condition with only a couple of broken strings which is very acceptable for a racket of this age. It has five rows of trebling to the top and four to the bottom. The handle grip is made up of the ash frame with applied rose wood and beachwood fascia strips finished with a plated butt strip. There is also a plated collar in the form of a buckle on the top end of the handle; this has the initials 'SELP'.
