Tin Of Four Dunlop 'The Service' Tennis Balls.
A metal tennis ball can made by Dunlop Rubber Co. Ltd., tin contains four rubber covered balls. The blue tin with white writing 'The Service Tennis Balls' and black 'Dunlop Rubber Co. Ltd. (sports division), Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, 24, Made In England'. The tin would originally had a key on the side to open the can. There is also the remains of a fragile printed paper label glued to the side of the tin "Important - This tin was packed under pressure for an Export Market. Owing to the Rubber Restrictions Order prohibiting exports, it has been possible to divert stocks to Home supplies. If the tin is not opened, the balls will retain their playing qualities for an indefinite period. To open, remove key from sleeve, affix to tag and open in usual way. Users are requested to hand discarded tins to Local Salvage associations. Price 20/- per doz. balls.
