A fine Nicolls 'Wally Hammond' autograph cricket bat. The blade is clean and in good condition with a cord strung grip and triple sprung handle and repair whipping around the blade in three places. The shoulders are embossed 'Nicolls' with the Nicolls trade mark shield, the blade with a facsimile autograph of W. Hammond.
Walter Reginald 'Wally' Hammond (19 June 1903 - 1 July 1965) was an English Test cricketer who played for Gloucestershire in a career that lasted from 1920 to 1951. In a Test career spanning 85 matches, he scored 7,249 runs and took 83 wickets. Hammond captained England in 20 of those Tests, winning four, losing three, and drawing 13.
