1934 Rolex Oyster Royal in "Rolesium" - Robert Meylan Case.
A remarkable pre-war Rolex Oyster Royal wristwatch dating to circa 1934, distinguished by its exceptionally rare "Rolesium" stainless steel case crafted by renowned Geneva case maker Robert Meylan.
Originating from the pioneering era of waterproof wristwatches, this example represents a fascinating combination of early Rolex engineering, unusual metallurgy, and period craftsmanship. The 31mm unpolished case retains its original proportions and crisp geometry, together with the original screw-down crown. The scarce Rolesium alloy has a distinctive platinum-like appearance and is particularly sought after among collectors of early Rolex Oyster models.
Inside is an Elite 10.5-ligne manual-winding Hunter movement with the prestigious "Extra Prima / Ultra Prima" adjustment grade, representing the highest level of accuracy regulation and finishing available for its period.
The aged, silvered dial has developed an attractive, untouched "ghost" patina, complemented by heat-blued steel hands and a central seconds hand beneath the original-style acrylic crystal. The watch displays honest surface wear consistent with its age while retaining strong overall definition.
Adding considerably to its historical appeal is the accompanying period retail ephemera: a vintage CD Peacock presentation box from the historic Chicago jeweller, together with a vintage blue felt Rolex service pouch. The watch is completed by a period-correct UK "Congress" stainless-steel stretch rivet bracelet, suitable for wrists up to approximately 7 inches.
With its rare Robert Meylan case, unusual Rolesium construction, early Oyster provenance, high-grade movement, original character and period accessories, this is an especially compelling example for the collector of early Rolex and pre-war horology.
