A very unusual 3¼" brass fly reel by John Bernard, Piccadilly, London. This reel is very attractive reel with a smooth constant check and unpolished finish in original condition. It comes with a folding bone handle, the face plate is engraved 'J..BERNARD, MAKER, 4 CHURCH PLACE, PICCADILLY, LONDON'. The brass foot plate has been altered at some stage in it's life.
John Bernard and his sons made a variety of fly reels in their London shop from the mid-1820's up until 1940.
