Charlie Hunter
1837 - 1921
Charles Hunter (Charlie) was born in Prestwick and was a caddie and clubmaker to Old Tom Morris. When Tom left to return to St. Andrews Charlie took over Prestwick where he remained until his death, although he had a brief spell at Royal Blackheath 1866-68. He produced very good quality long nosed clubs stamped 'C.Hunter' from 1860 - 1890, played in the first Open in 1860 and laid out various golf courses, Machrihanish, Prestwick St. Nicholas and revising Prestwick. Hunter's son was married to Tom Morris's daughter.
