Lignum Vitae Presentation Lawn Bowls.
A very nice pair of miniature Victorian ebonised lignum vitae presentation lawn bowls with silvered plaques. The front discs are larger than the rear ones but all are engraved with a pattern around the outer edge. The bowls carry the maker's name 'R. G. Lawrie, Glasgow' and they are in excellent condition.

Robert G. Lawrie was a talented turner and started business turning ivory billiard balls before later producing bowling green bowls. Lawrie's bowls were sold throughout the countries of the British Empire, and in the United States. In the early 1880's when the army introduced pipe bands, the company diversified into make kilts, sporrans, feather bonnets and dirks.
