Victorian Cricket Bat With Silver Shield, 1887
A good early willow cricket bat made by B. Warsop, Marylebone, England. The bat has a rounded back, cord strung handle and very attractive patination. The shoulders are embossed with the maker's name 'B. WARSOP, MARYLEBONE', the blade with B. Warsop trade mark, 'B. Warsop's Conqueror Patent Spring Handle ' written within a ring and in the middle of the circle a canon. The blade has marks on it where it was once whipped and the bottom has some nails driven it to it. The silver shield is engraved 'Presented to, Samuel Hemsley, by the Crowborough C.C, for the best average 1887'.
