Vintage Signed Stuart Surridge Cricket Bat, 1957 West Indies Tour.
A good autographed willow cricket bat stamped on the face 'County Driver' with the maker's name: Stuart Surridge & Co. Ltd, London, England, with the Wellington trade mark on the shoulders of the bat. The bat has a Patent reinforced toe. We were told this cricket bat was won by a London schoolboy in a raffle at Cheltenham College grounds during Cheltenham Cricket Week. The face of the blade with 28 original pen signatures - West Indies & England. The rear of the bat with signatures from the 'Gentlemen', 'Players', Somerset and Gloucestershire cricket teams.
The players listed below played in the 1957 West Indies Tour, their autographs / signature could well be on this bat.
The full West Indies side was:
John Goddard (captain), Clyde Walcott, Gerry Alexander, Nyron Asgarali, Denis Atkinson, Tom Dewdney, Andy Ganteaume, Roy Gilchrist, Wes Hall, Rohan Kanhai, Bruce Pairaudeau, Sonny Ramadhin, Collie Smith, Gary Sobers, Alf Valentine, Everton Weekes & Frank Worrell.
England:
Peter Richardson, Brian Close, Doug Insole, Peter May (captain), Colin Cowdrey, Trevor Bailey, Tony Lock, Godfrey Evans, Jim Laker, Fred Trueman & Brian Statham.
Somerset:
L Pickles, WE Alley, GM Tripp, CL McCool, CMH Greetham, KE Palmer, HW Stephenson, JH Harris, BA Langford, JWJ McMahon & B Lobb.
Gloucestershire:
GM Emmett, DM Young, W Knightley-Smith, TW Graveney, RB Nicholls, DG Hawkins, BJ Meyer, GEE Lambert, DR Smith, C Cook & BD Wells.
The Gentlemen and Players are a bit aloof and we can not find any mention of them. We have however been able to spot Colin Cowdrey, Gamini Goonesena & Colin Stansfield Smith for the Gentlemen and Dennis Compton for the Players.
The last image is a copy of and old advert from a 1930's cricket magazine.
