VINTAGE CRICKET BAT, HERBERT SUTCLIFFE, STUART SURRIDGE.
A good willow cricket bat stamped 'TRADE MARK WELLINGTON, PATENT REINFORCED TOE, No. 19386/28, Yorks XI, England XI', a facsimile autograph of Herbert Sutcliffe and the maker's name: Stuart Surridge & Co. Ltd., London. The rear of the bat is stamped 'EXTRA SPECIAL'. The bat is in good condition with a cord strung handle but the blade has been damaged and there is extra whipping on the blade near the bottom.
On 30 September 2009, Herbert Sutcliffe was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. Herbert Sutcliffe (1894 - 1978) is universally regarded as one of the greatest-ever opening English Cricket Batsman and batted for Yorkshire and England. For much of his Test career, which spanned from 1924 to 1935, Sutcliffe opened the batting for England with his fellow Hall of Fame member Jack Hobbs in what is regarded as the most formidable partnership England has ever seen. He played in 54 Tests for England and scored 4555 runs at an average of more than 60.
