A wonderful view of Edinburgh Castle taken from Bruntsfield Links. This is thought to be one of, if not the earliest, golf engraving to show golf being played in the British Isles. The picture in a Hogarth frame, depicts a group of people playing a primitive form, or style of golf on Bruntsfield Links in Scotland. Publishing details 'Edinburgh, Engraved by J. Walker from an Original Drawing by F. Nicholson, published May 1798 by J. Walker, No 5 Rosomans Street, London, pl 151. Vol:IV'.
John Walker produced the engraving of Francis Nichol's watercolour for the fourth volume of the Copper-plate Magazine (1792-1802). The title page of the magazine reads 'The Copper Plate Magazine, or Monthly Cabinet of Picturesque Prints, Consisting of Sublime and Interesting Views in Great Britain and Ireland, Beautifully Engraved by the Most Eminent Artists from Paintings and Drawings of the First Masters, vol. IV'.
