Golf Etching By J.R. Barclay, Sand.
Golfing Picture, Drypoint Etching by John R. Barclay.
A black and white etching of a golfer playing out of the dunes whilst watched by his playing partner. The fine original dry point etching 'Out of the Dunes' is on antique laid paper and signed by the artist in pencil in the lower left margin. On the back board are two paper labels. One label reads 'Aitken Dott & Son (Scottish Gallery) "SAND" original Etching by John R. Barclay, 3904, whilst the other reads 'Edinburgh Evening Dispatch Trophy, 1927. Won by Scottish Board Of Health Golf Club. To Mr Alex. Morrison, Captain of the Team, as a Memento. From James Leithman'.
A dry point is traditionally done on copper plate, the image is engraved with an etching needle to create an impression of a drawing. When inked the plate can then be printed from again and again to produce an edition of prints.
