McIntosh Patrick Golf Poster of St Andrews, 17th and 18th Holes.
This fine and very rare vintage British Railways Travel Poster in excellent good original condition, professionally mounted on linen, crease lines are hardly visible. The travel poster was produced by British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to St. Andrews, Scotland. It is a large beautiful and colourful illustration showing the 1st, 17th and 18th hole at The Royal and Ancient Golf Club St. Andrews. The iconic Swilcan bridge and the club house clearly visible with the Hamilton Grand, ( A Hotel before WW2) to the right. Printed in Great Britain by Stafford and Co. Ltd., Netherfield, Nottingham. The original artwork for the poster was by the celebrated British artist McIntosh Patrick.
The poster reads 'St. Andrews, Guide free from town clerk, St. Andrews, Fife. Train services and fares from British Railways stations, offices and agencies. Published by British Railways (Scottish Region) 8 26528, Lithographed in Great Britain by Stafford & Co. Ltd., Netherfield, Nottingham'.

McIntosh Patrick was born in Dundee in 1907 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1924 to 1928. His 90th birthday was marked by an exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and he was made an OBE the same year.
