Limited Edition Print Of First Match-Play Championship Held At St Andrews 1858.
Laurie Auchterlonie, St Andrews signed ltd ed. print no. 610/700 titled "First Match-Play Championship Held At St Andrews 1858", taken from the original St Andrews collection of Mr. Laurie Auchterlonie, mounted and framed in period oak frame with gold slip. The finalists of the match were Mr. David Wallace and Mr. R. Chambers Jnr., Chambers was victorious.
The 1858 match-play tournament at St Andrews attracted an entry of twenty-eight players, Robert Chambers Jnr. Was the youngest player in the tournament and represented The Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society. Chambers beating Mr Wallace on the last green. This was the first individual golf championship and Robert therefore effectively became the first national golf club champion. Robert won a set of silver plates for his victory and the Bruntsfield Links club held a dinner to celebrate.
