Rules of Golf Illustrated by Charles Crombie - Perrier, c.1905
32218
A charming and highly collectible original Edwardian Rules of Golf Illustrated, featuring the celebrated humorous illustrations by Charles Crombie.
This scarce oblong publication contains the complete set of 24 wonderfully comic chromolithographic plates, depicting golfers in medieval costume and finding themselves in a series of increasingly improbable situations. Each illustration is accompanied by a humorous caption and a rule of golf, making the book both an entertaining piece of golfing history and an excellent example of early twentieth-century advertising art.
The illustrations were produced for Perrier and first published in book form in 1905. The reverse of each plate carries the original Perrier advertising, with copyright credited to Perrier. The book was published by Golf Illustrated and printed by Bemrose of Derby and London
The book is housed in its original publisher's hardback folder, covered in green cloth and titled in red "The Rules of Golf Illustrated." The 24 colour plates retain strong, vibrant colouring, which is particularly appealing in this copy.
