Bobby Jones Golf Figure In Spelter

Bobby Jones Golf Figure In Spelter

Sold

Vintage Statue of Legendary Golfer Bobby Jones.
A bronzed golfing figure of the renowned American amateur golfer Robert Tyre "Bobby" Jones Jr. (1902 - 1971). Manufactured in a white metal alloy (spelter) with a bronze effect, mounted on a shaped base with enamelled oval plaque with the emblem of the Joint War Committee (British Red Cross Society and the Order of St John of Jerusalem in England). Bobby can be seen in the follow through position.

It is thought that this was produced during the war to raise money on behalf wounded soldiers, hence the enamelled plaque.

Joint War Committee or Joint War Organisation was a combined operation of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St John of Jerusalem during the World Wars. Following the outbreak of war in August 1914, the British Red Cross formed the organisation the Order of St John. They pooled their fundraising activities and resources and worked together. It ceased operations when World War I ended in 1919 but was re-formed upon the British entry into World War II in 1939; it was active until its permanent disbanding in 1947.
