Henry Abraham Mitchell Abe was an English professional golfer born in East Grinstead Sussex.. Abe was a fine amateur golfer and played for England against the Scots in 1910 and won. He turned professional in 1913 and was pro at Sonning Golf Club in Berkshire (1913 - 1910) later pro at North Foreland (1920 - 1925) and the private pro at Verulam Golf Club St Albans where he became Samuel Ryders personal golf instructor. Mitchell had eight top-10 finishes out of 17 appearances in the Open Championships (often referred to as The Open or the British Open) his best performance being fourth in 1920. He was a Ryder Cup player in 1929 1931 and 1933 missing out being the player-captain of Great Britains first Ryder Cup team in 1927 due to appendicitis. Mitchell won many golf tournaments in Great Britain and frequently toured the United States winning the 1924 Miami Open and entering into three U.S. Opens.
