Charlie Hunter
Charles Hunter (Charlie) was born in Prestwick and was a caddie and clubmaker to Old Tom Morris. When Tom left to return to St. Andrews Charlie took over Prestwick where he remained until his death although he had a brief spell at Royal Blackheath 1866-68. He produced very good quality long nosed clubs stamped C.Hunter from 1860 - 1890 played in the first Open in 1860 and laid out various golf courses Machrihanish Prestwick St. Nicholas and revising Prestwick. Hunters son was married to Tom Morriss daughter.
