Motoring "Town & Country" Prints by Lance Thackeray
A rare pair of large, humorous motoring chromolithographs by Lance Thackeray, titled Town & Country. The images feature the artist's facsimile signature within the print, with the titles attached to the original frames. These wonderful, large, colourful motoring scenes remain in their original frames with original glass. The frames have been professionally cleaned, lightly touched up, and fitted with new backing paper.
The subject matter captures early motoring life. 'Town' depicts a high-society scene, a lady sits with a dog on her lap in a horse-less carriage being chauffeur-driven along the edge of a park, observed by bystanders - gentlemen in top hats and ladies wearing bonnets - while two gentlemen on horseback look on.
'Country' shows a lively foursome in an early automobile tearing through a village, kicking up clouds of dust. A child runs alongside the car, a dog darts out of the way, and a gentleman is seen calming a horse in the yard of "The Fat Man" inn.
A superb and highly decorative pair of colourful automobilia prints.
