Condition The original oak frames have been carefully cleaned, while the prints themselves have been left untouched, retaining their original surface and character. The prints have been trimmed along the black border and remain securely mounted to their original backboards, with the edges adhered in the traditional manner. There are a couple of minor condition points consistent with the age and large format of these early prints. The Whip has a small tear to the lower right corner, while The Huntsman has a small tear running through the riding helmet. Neither detracts significantly from the overall appearance of the prints when framed and displayed. The paper has some gentle undulation across the surface, which is not unusual with chromolithographs of this considerable size and is particularly noticeable only on close inspection. Overall, the prints retain good colour, attractive original surfaces and a pleasing period appearance, and the recently cleaned oak frames present them particularly well. In short, these remain an attractive and authentic pair, with the minor imperfections one would expect from large early prints of this age.
