ANTIQUE TENNIS BOOK, ANNALS OF TENNIS.
A very good tennis book "The Annals of Tennis" by Julian Marshall with gilt tooled, green cloth covers showing crossed lopsided rackets. Marshall was the tennis correspondent for The Field magazine and his book is one of the most collectable for its scholarly approach to the subject. It has numerous illustrations and was the first account of the general history and description of tennis. The original owner's name Henry E. Butler and the date, 1884 are written in ink on the inside cover. The inside cover also has a fixed clipping of the Oxbridge Four Handed, matches from 1859 to 1885. The Hon. H. E. Butler of Oxford won the four handed match, with his partner, against Cambridge in 1865. Printed by Horace Cox, Strand in 1878.
