Gentleman's Large Silver Plated Hip Flask By James Dixon.
An impressive silver-plated spirit hip flask made by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield. The upper portion of the glass flask ornamented in leather (simulated crocodile skin) with level viewing windows cut into both sides. This exceptional hip flask with plain domed hinged lid with screw bayonet fitting and retains the original push fit drinking cup with original gilt interior (height 5 ½ cm / 2 ¼ inches), all marked James Dixon & Sons. On one side of the bottleneck can be found JD & S, whilst on the other side is a trumpet. The JD & S is the mark of James Dixon & Sons and the "Trumpet and Banner" mark identifies without doubt it is a Dixon's product. The use of the trumpet is to prevent mistakes with the marks "JD & S" used by another Sheffield manufacturer, James Deakin & Sons. The drinking cup with Dixon's marks and engraved initials to the front 'HHK'.
The last image shows the flask with three other James Dixon & Sons flasks, this flask is on the left.
Volume 250 ml. 8.8 imperial fluid ounces.
This flask is ready for use, has been tested for water tightness, and to ensure the flask remains water tight; the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.
