Henry Matthews Sterling Silver Photograph Frame.
A fine sterling silver picture frame by Henry Matthews of Birmingham. The exceptional George V English sterling silver portrait photograph frame hallmarked (HM - anchor - lion - A) Birmingham 1925. The frame with rectangular form with curved top and highly detailed embossing around the outer edge and the edge of the internal window, fitted with an oak wood back with hinged strut, secured with two swivel catches.
Henry Matthews was a Birmingham silversmith and registered his first mark around 1894. Based in Vittoria Street famous for being part of the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. Matthews was renown for his small silver items that required great attention to detail, examples being photo frames, hair brushes, cigarette cases, hat pins, card cases and buttons amongst other items. Henry Matthews ceased production in 1930.
