Louis Moreau

1855 - 1919

Born in Dijon, France in 1855 into a family of sculptors, Louis Auguste Moreau was the son of Auguste Moreau. His uncles Marthurin Moreau and Hyppolyte-Francois Moreau were also sculptors as was his brother Hyppolyte Moreau. He was tutored by his father and also studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris. He specialized in allegorical and classical groups as well as well-known figures. For a time Louis went into partnership with his brother (Hyppolyte) to produce decorative sculptures and created the L & F Moreau signature. He died in France in 1919.
