The Ypres Salient - W L Wylie
The Ypres Salient By William Lionel Wyllie.
A poignant reminder of WWI in this framed collotype of biplanes over Ypres by W.L. Wyllie, taken from his watercolour drawing "The Ypres Salient". A great picture of aerial combat over Ypres (copyrighted and published by R. Dunthorne, Vigo Street, London, W.). William Lionel Wyllie was a British artist who was born in 1851, he was a prolific English painter known for his maritime themes in both oils and watercolours and was an authorised official war artist.
Of interested, the frontispiece of 'In The Ypres Salient The Story Of A Fortnight's Canadian Fighting June 2nd-16th 1916' by Beckles Willson, is the key to "THE YPRES SALIENT" by W.L. Wyllie, R.A. (of which the last image is a copy).
