An unusual small leather pencil golf bag with a fixed sleeve for golf balls. The balls can be inserted from the top and taken out from the bottom by popping open the flap with an eye over stud fastening. This is a very rare and early bag from the late nineteenth century. Embossed by the carry handle are the words "MADE UNDER LICENSE, PATENT 23742". The seams on this bag are not sewn together but are held in place by laced leather straps.
