Equestrian Oil On Canvas, Gentleman On Horseback.
A fine oil painting of a huntsman on horseback in gilt frame. The colourful fox hunting oil shows a gentleman seated on his chestnut hunter wearing a red hunting jacket (hunting pink) with top hat and holding a whip. The oil on canvas is signed and dated bottom left-hand corner "B.C Norten, 1873". Huntsman unknown.

Benjamin Cam Norton (1835-1900) was a British painter specialising in horse and animal portraits, but commonly known for his equestrian subjects. Born in Sheffield he frequently attended the races at Cheltenham, Doncaster, Liverpool and Newmarket and painted portraits of the racehorses and jockeys, which include 'St. Gatien' (bred by Major E. Brace) with jockey Charles Wood at Newmarket, painted in 1885.
