Antique Georgian Mahogany Bachelor's Chest of Drawers.
This handsome antique Georgian bachelor's chest of drawers combines practical storage with the compact versatility for which these pieces are renowned. Originating in late 17th-century England, bachelor's chests were designed for single gentlemen living in smaller quarters, offering both generous clothing storage and a convenient surface for writing or organising garments.
This example is arranged as four graduated, full-width drawers, each fitted with elegant brass swan-neck drop handles and circular backplates. Above the drawers is a 32 cm pull-out slide, which provides a useful writing surface or a convenient space for laying out and organising clothing. The chest is raised on traditional bracket feet, completing its understated Georgian character.
Compact, shallow and inherently practical, the bachelor's chest remains an exceptionally useful piece of furniture today. Its relatively modest proportions provide valuable storage without demanding too much floor space, making it particularly well suited to a smaller primary bedroom, guest room or child's room.
