Portable Mahogany Cellarette.
An early Victorian mahogany cellarette with the original nine interior dividers for glass bottles, decanters which are no longer there. It has two brass carry handles and working lock with key. The wine box with four ceramic feet, great patina, boxwood stringing edges. The name "cellarette" translates to "little cellar" and refers to its function as a portable storage unit for wine, whiskey or liquor.
A cellarette / cellaret can be available in various sizes, shapes, and designs, but ultimately all used to store bottles of alcoholic beverages such as wine or whiskey. They usually come with some type of security such as a lock to protect the contents.
