Antique Mahogany Folding Card Table
A very attractive Victorian campaign folding games table, card table in mahogany with green baize playing surface.
The table is well equipped with two pull-out drawers, each fitted with pencil holders and glass viewing windows for scorecards, set within plated surrounds stamped PATENT. The tabletop frame also incorporates two removable nickel silver ashtrays and two integrated pencil sharpeners with roughened lids for sanding pencils to a fine point.
The top is hinged at the centre, allowing the table to fold neatly away. When open, it stands on an X-frame base, very similar in form to a coaching table. When closed, the table is secured with a nickel-plated clasp, and when open the top is locked firmly in position with lever catches to prevent collapse.
There is a metal label affixed to the base reading 'John Bagshaw & Sons (Liverpool) Limited'. We have previously had several examples of this style of table retailed by both John Bagshaw & Sons and Finnigans, Liverpool, both highly regarded retailers known for their high-quality and luxury goods.
This card table is particularly practical, making an excellent space-saving piece for those who require a games table for occasional use.
Closed measurements: 104 cm x 76 cm x 22 cm
(Measurements shown are when open).
The playing cards and Bezique markers shown in the later images are not included in the sale.
