Antique Osmond's Automaton Caddie Golf bag.
A wonderful example of an Osmond's automaton caddy golf bag. This is a rare find indeed as not many of these bags have survived, and they are difficult to obtain. The caddie has a leather carry handle, canvas and leather bag for golf balls mounted to the front with a half canvas pencil bag to the bottom. The patent for Osmond's caddie was awarded in 1893. With this clever design the legs will open out automatically when the lower end is placed on the ground, and will then fold back in when lifted up. This has a blank brass plate on it but others in the past have had the manufactures brass plaque which reads 'THE AUTOMATON CADDIE, OSMOND'S PATENT, THORNHILL WORKS, LEE S.E'.
This is a good example mostly in original condition with a little repair to the top of the pencil bag.

Good original condition. leather is a bit stiff. The ball bag has some stitching coming undone, top of the pencil bag has been repaired with some old leather.
