Vintage Golf Ball Press
Vintage Golf Ball Press
31542
Antique 'Gutty' Golf Ball Press.
A heavy-duty cast iron gutty golf ball press designed for early golf ball moulds. This horseshoe-shaped press features a tap-handled screw-down mechanism and was intended for mounting to a workbench.
To make a gutty golf ball, gutta-percha was first heated and loosely rolled into a spherical shape. The ball was then placed into a two-part mould, which was positioned inside the press. The handle was wound down tightly, forcing the two halves of the mould together. This process imprinted the mould's pattern onto the ball while excess material squeezed out from the sides. Once cooled, the seams were trimmed, resulting in a hard, non-brittle "gutty" golf ball.
The size given is when the handle is fully down. When raised to it highest position it measures 47 cm. It will take a ball mould maximum 15 cm high.
Price is for the press only, the ball mould and golf ball are sold separately.
