This is a hard bound, 1896 1st edition copy, with original green pictorial cloth cover and black letter title "The Game Of Golf" By W. Park, gilt title to spine. As far as we can ascertain all 277 pages are there, Illustrated with numerous plates from photographs and wood engravings, and in good sound condition. Longman's, Green, and Co., London, New York and Bombay.
It is difficult to overstate the importance of The Game of Golf; it was the first book of instruction written by a playing golf professional and was way ahead of its time. Written by Willie Park Jr. who was the British Open Champion in 1887 and 1889. He designed the Old Course at Sunningdale and Maidstone and was considered one of the best putters of all time.
Twelve chapters on all things golf, equipment (list of different golf clubs used), golf balls, Style of play, The long game, approaching, putting, play out of hazards, general remarks on the game, handicapping and competitions, the rules of golf adopted by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, rules of the Royal Wimbledon Golf Club and an important chapter on early golf course architecture, with a glossary of technical terms frequently used in connection with the game of golf.
