Antique Golf Club, Rut Iron, Track Iron.
Antique Golf Club, Rut Iron, Track Iron.
A wonderful, original Rut Iron, also called Rutter or Track Iron. Rut irons were commonly used to hit the ball from cart tracks deep ruts etc. Young Tom Morris was known to hit his rut iron from the fairway to play a high shot onto the green, a shot only a player of his caliber could master. They say he even managed to get backspin on the ball.
This club, with very small head, long hosel and hickory shaft is in great condition.
The shaft is stamped J. Tulloch, Glasgow.
John Tulloch was Pro at Glasgow Gales Golf Club from 1899 - 1912.
This club is probably from the 1860's or 70's so Tullochs stamp would suggest that he re shafted the club at around 1900. The suede grip is also from a later date, but old.
The club face is smooth and very thick. The face measures 5cm wide, 4.6 cm high and the hosel, measured from top to the bottom of the face 12.5cm. Measured to the top of the face it is 9 cm.
A great golf collectable in excellent condition.
