Antique Gassiat, Chantilly Putter.
A good example of a hickory shafted 'Jean Gassiat' Chantilly putter with leather 'pistol grip'. On the top of this club head is unmistakably the 'Jean Gassiat' autograph stamp with added text 'LCL model, Reg. No. 627732'. Not all clubs have this, some are marked with the name of a location, golf course or another golf professional. There is a full brass plate to the sole of the club head. Because of its squared off nose, a 'Gassait' putter could also be used in the 'croquet style' of putting. In 1910 the R&A ruling against center-shafted and croquet style putters prohibited their use during sanctioned play, ultimately banned altogether in 1968.

The putter was given the British design registration number "627,732", this number, issued to W.M. Winton & Company, London, on October 26, 1913, covered the Gassiat putter.

Some clubs will have a patent number or a registered design number. The difference being, the patent protects the invention, focusing on functionality and how it works, whilst a registered design protects the visual appearance, such as its shape, pattern or ornamentation.

The measurements shown are the length of the whole club, the width of the face and depth of the head.
