ANTIQUE HICKORY GOLF CLUB, SMOOTH FACE IRON, F. H. AYRES.
A good early example of a smooth faced hickory shafted iron by F. H. AYRES with a sheep skin grip. The makers name is faint but can be read on the back of the club head, as is the letter S. The shaft is also stamp with F.H.AYRES and where the shaft fits the hosel there is nice clean nicking.
F.H.Ayres was established in 1810 and manufactured golf and games as early as the 1880's. F.H.Ayres used the 'Maltese Cross' mark from about 1910, they were eventually bought out by Slazenger.
