Lillywhite's "Nonfooze" Steel Shafted Golf Club, Chipper
Lillywhite's "Nonfooze" Steel Shafted Golf Club, Chipper
Nonfooze No.2 Steel Shafted Chipper
An unusual 1930's steel shafted chipper with an extended flange. The club has a pyratone faux-wood covering on the shaft and a polished leather grip. The club was retailed by Lillywhites, London and the club face with dot punched markings, rear with a cleek mark of possibly an old church and the name 'C. Carter'. The bottom stamped '2 Lillywhites, "Nonfooze", top of the extended flange stamped 'PAT APP FOR'. The Club Maker is possibly that of Charles Carter of Yeovil, Somerset.
Pyratone was a casing patented in the mid 1920's and used to coat early steel shafted golf clubs. The material was mostly yellow, black and brown and made to resemble the wood and the earlier hickory shafts of golf clubs.
