George Bussey Transitional Long Nose Spoon, Golf Club.
A superb transitional long nose spoon by George Bussey. The beautiful fruitwood head with excellent colour and good makers and model stamp "Geo. G. Bussey & Co. Patent, DEMON DRIVER" with the GGB arrow logo. This great looking club has three small lead weights to the rear and the traditional horn slip along the leading edge of the sole with a full brass plate with screws. The club face stamped "Brassey Spoon" as is the original hickory shaft which also has the original 'Bussey' one piece suede leather grip.
This is a very nice example of a transitional long nose golf club from the 1880's in excellent condition.
Approximate head size:-
a = 8.5cm
b = 3.5cm
c = 4.7cm
The early clubs are made with long slender shallow-faced heads with an ash or hickory shaft glued to the head by means of a splice or scare joint. This joint is then further strengthened by whipping with a pitched thread. All beautifully hand made by craftsmen of the time.
