Vintage Hickory Golf Club, Putter.
Vintage Hickory Golf Club, Putter.
Hickory Shafted Golf Club, Putter.
A good original 1920's putter by the Stadium Golf Co. and retailed by William Button. The off set club head is in the style of the "GEM" putter and has dash punched face markings, a polished leather grip and hickory shaft. The club head stamped with the 'anchor' cleek mark of the Stadium Golf Co., London. Stadium did not forge their own club heads, but instead had them made by the well known cleek makers, the Gourlays.
The Gourlay family came from Carnoustie and both father and son were named James. One of their cleek marks was also an 'anchor' but of a slightly different design to that of the Stadium Co. that came into use circa 1925. The Gourlays also forged heads for other makers, most notably Robert Simpson.
This club was made for William Button who was Professional at Cleveland from 1912-1922, Woodsome Hall from 1922-1929 and Harbourne from 1929 to 1949.
