Vienna born Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950) was a sculptor and ceramicist and is famed for his shapely Art Deco dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl started out at the Vienna Arsenal foundry where he learned the bronze casting techniques. Working in the Vienna Arsenal, located in the south-eastern part of Vienna, he was able to produce many bronze and chryselephantine sculptures. Being a gifted ceramicist he produced pieces for Goldscheider, working from a studio on company grounds.
