Golf Figure Of Harry Vardon.
A wonderful cast figure of the Champion Golfer Harry Vardon. The figure sculpted by Hal Ludlow and cast by the Elkington foundry. The impressive and well known figure of Vardon is mounted on an oak plinth with plaque. The figure stands 12 ½ cm high.
Harry Vardon (1870-1937) was a champion golfer and member of the Great Triumvirate of the sport, together with J.H. Taylor and James Braid. During his career, Harry Vardon won 62 golf tournaments, including six British Open titles. He was also well known as a golf course architect and for the Vardon grip which is still the most popular grip amongst professional golfers today.
Henry Stephen Ludlow (Hal) was born in 1861. He studied at Heatherleys and Highgate Art Colleges. He became a portrait painter and illustrator for the Illustrated London News, Sketch Magazine etc. Hal Ludlow was also a fine golfer, he won the 1904 Welsh National Amateur Championship.
