Triumph Tiger Cub (T20SM Mountain Cub) Motor Bike.
A 1964 200 cc single-cylinder Triumph Tiger Cub motorcycle made by Triumph Motorcycles at their Meriden factory for US export. Based on the Triumph T15 Terrier 150 cc, the 200 cc T20 Tiger Cub was designed by Edward Turner and launched at the Earls Court show in November 1953. The bike is in good usable condition with pillion seat and rubber knee guards on the tank. Nicknamed the "Baby Bonnie", it has great styling just like the bigger Triumphs like the Speed Twin and Thunderbird. At half the price of a T-bird, the Triumph Tiger Cub allowed entry to the Triumph range for a budget price. The Cub was a popular learner motorcycle as it is a low bike, it was attractive to the youths who hankered after the bigger twins and was a great ride-to-work bike with style. A hit on both sides of the Atlantic with a competitive price tag, £127 in the UK, whilst price $449 in the US. With a top speed faster than 60mph, it was definitely a cut above all the 2-stroke British bikes of the day.
This Tiger was dispatched in 1964 as a Triumph T20SM Mountain Cub and sent to Johnson Motors Inc., Pasadena, California, USA. on 31st July 1964.
It was re-imported here and registered in Great Britain 1.3.2019.
Reg. MCY 554B, Vin. Chass. No. T20SM99458 & Engine No. T20SM99458.
