1920 Oxford & Cambridge University Boat Race Photograph.
This is a wonderful memento of the 72nd Oxford and Cambridge University boat race that took place on 27th March 1920. Cambridge won by four lengths in a time of 21 minutes 11 seconds, the victory took the overall record to 39-32 in Oxford's favour. The photograph is not the usual posed team photo, but three action shots taken during the actual race. The left photo was taken at Hammersmith with the Light Blues in front by a three-quarter length, the right was taken at Barnes with Cambridge now three lengths ahead. The main central photograph is of the Cambridge crew with the names, colleges and weights below. The mount with title 'Inter Varsity Boat Race, March 27th 1920' and with the Oxford and Cambridge University crests, the crew names are :-

Cambridge won by 4 Lengths Time 21.m 11.s.

Humphrey Blake Playford (8 February 1896 - 1981) was an English rower distinguished by rowing in three successful races against Oxford University and rowing Head of the River for Jesus College, Cambridge in the same three years.

John Alan Campbell (13 April 1899 - 20 February 1939) was a British rower who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics.

Robin Talbot Johnstone (6 August 1901 - 20 February 1976) was a British rowing cox who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics.
